Obama proposed a budget for the government and to reduce deficit in government due to spending cuts and tax rates on half of the americans. He wants to stabilize finance and economic growth for the middle class. He wants to complete the unfinished task of creating jobs for americans, whereas incomes has barely budged. I definitely support this plan because it will open doors of opportunities for everybody, especially children (like me) or future generations and for them to be able to graduate college and find a career.

Obamas stance on Education is very powerful. I don't see any American that would oppose his view. Children who start school early are the children that graduate and go on to get jobs. Giving everyone this opportunity helps out the economy. During his last term his idea was a smarter curriculum and now it is to redesign schools so that students are more educated. The president even talked about college debt which is a main issue for almost every high school graduate. He said colleges must act to keep costs down which I personally more than agree on. This gives everyone a equal chance to succeed even immigrants with not much, which leads on to immigration reform. Obama has always been supporting immigration reform and he is willing to sign a bill. He's persuading Congress to hurry and pass a bill, for he will sign it.

It does sound like he said this before but I think its cause no policies have been made yet. He seems to want to show the public that he wants Congress to act on this soon and carry out the promises made.

I think it's sort of hard to distinguish between style and substance in this address, which might actually be a good thing. At times he seems very stylistically inspirational and optimistic, talking about America and it's influence on other nations. It's true that at times he definitely seems to be making promises, rather than explaining and announcing his actions themselves. However, he does propose very specific and solid plans, in a way that doesn't seem the way he was when campaigning.

Another policy that Obama Proposes is the Equal service benefits for soldiers. He advocates for better health care for the soldiers as well. This is an imperative proposal because, the military is a vital part of America's defense. They serve to protect our nation and they deserve to be treated fairly.

Women for combat. Allowing both gay and straight in our defense military. Obama has a lot of support on these statements. Its time in our society that anyway who wishes to serve in the military is allowed to. Obama also mentions benefits for veterans such as mental healthcare. Many veterans are forgotten when they come back from war and that needs to change.

It was very beneficial to have the "Pendleton" Parents in the audience. Their presence and Obama's personal anecdote about the 15 yr old girl that was shot in a Chicago Park added to his proposal of stricter gun laws. His stylistic choice of adding this personal story and having her parents present.

Obama addresses gun violence and persuade the vote of gun laws by putting out personal experiences of people who has lost people from gun violence. This riles up the audience and persuades the nation to address gun laws to lessen gun violence in the U.S. It helps that he uses personal experiences of average people to have them feel empathetic.

Obama has a plan to improve the methods of how we vote. He said that we owe it to our democracy. I agree with his idea because it is important to have more people vote in elections. The people are not performing their duties as citizens if they do not have time to vote. His style when approaching this topic was using a specific story and person.

Obama wants to promote gun laws--background checks, etc. He's using statistics when addressing this topic. He is also using a specific story about a young girl who died from gun violence. This is an important strategy to get the public to place pressure on the Congress to past gun laws. His style was repeatedly saying that "they deserve a vote." By doing this, he trying to evoke some type of emotion in Congress members and the public. It is definitely an effective way to promote his ideas on gun reform.

Obama's speech was informative yet interesting. This I feel is mostly because he is a powerful speech maker. He "works" the crowd, and becomes very personal. This may be a natural but a strategic way to involve the public, keep them aware and in-tentative to what he is saying.

I dont think that Obamas style outweighs his substance. He had great examples for his views and was strong with what he believed in. His style added to this however, but strength was something he needed to show during this address. He really seemed to cover what the american people wanted to hear.

The media calls his address"familiar" because he used a lot of these ideas for his campaign. They quoted his words of "modest changes" and completely changed the meaning of his words. Obama meant that modest changes should be made so in the end the country will progress while the media related his words to the healthcare reform and said that healthcare needs a lot more than "modest changes".

In terms of style, i think the president had a clear outline, highlighting the positives, but addressing the negatives. Second, he inspired patriotism, and third he emphasized bipartisanship, the idea of everyone working together to move "forward" together, putting "the nation's interest above the party" and to work as "partners".

Three issues Obama addressed in his State of Union including gun control by addressing how guns have harmed people from gun violence. He tries to connect with the people through an anecdote which really allows Obama to persuade the people effectively. Obama also addresses better benefits for the military. I agree with Obama's policy problems especially because incidents such as the one in Newtown seem to come up frequently. Obama also wants the soldiers to receive good health benefits as well which is just as fair. I think this is fair considering the military does so much for our country. It would only be fair. He also wants better education especially secondary schools. This is a major deal especially since secondary schools and the education gain help chose the outlet to your future. Oh also I wouldn't mind if minimum wage was raised because honestly you can't afford anything in this economy...

I am watching ABC: The Republican Response. The basic idea is that instead of more government interference the government aid should be limited. Obama's ideas to increase taxes , according to Sen Marco Rubio would not be beneficial to the working class, because small businesses have to lay off more individuals. He also bashes the president for not "providing an extensive plan for economy reform. The state of the Union address is not used to explain in full, long drawn out policies but to introduce possible policy's and to report "The state of the Union" .

I now understand what they meant by FOX news being conservative and MSNBC being liberal. Fox news is talking about how what President Obama said is inaccurate. They believe that Obamas policies will increase the deficit and its not possible to not increase by a dime. The numbers are said to make Obamas statement false. Another comment they made was that Obama was right to restrain his comments on immigration. Senator Rubio stated that all Obama is focused on is spending and taxing. Almost every policy that Obama stated is being criticized and they say that Obama criticized Republicans during his address. Other channels however, are talking about how strong obama came off and are supporting the policies. There are times though that they both agree, such as gun laws and education. The way to make the change may be different but they agree on the same goal.

Media such as FOX try to portray Obama as someone who spends too much of the economy's money and raises government expenditures. They explain how Obama doesn't go into depth on fixing the economy. Stations such as NBC portray Obama as an enemy of the middle class by how he is making the government too spread apart. Rubio (a republican) also backlashes Obama on his ideas. ABC explains how Obama's speech shows how he is a heroic leader who is trying to strengthen our divided nation.

Does the media support or subvert the people? I think that if you were watching the president's speech already having been informed about things that he mentioned (health care reform, gun control, unemployment, immigration, etc), then the media is giving you access to a variety of perspectives what Obama said, providing you with a chance to mold your own opinions based on the speech and based on what other people have to say (thus supporting the people). If you weren't well-informed before this speech, you might not have understood everything that Obama addressed and therefore you are relying on what people are saying on particular news stations, and even if you switch channels around, it may feel confusing to hear so many different opinions, especially if facts and evidence aren't give to support any statements made by the media. This may lead you to simply settle for what the news station you're watching it saying and sticking to this. (thus perhaps only subverting the people)

By watching the unfiltered State of the Union address, the people are allowed to come to their own conclusions and form their own opinions to the Obama's policies and ideas. However, the comments from the news organizations after the speech seems to either attack or promote Obama and his policy ideas. In this case, the media subverts the people. The public is filled with bias ideas from the media and it corrupts their mind; this does not allow the people to make their own conclusions. For example, FOX attacked Obama and stated that he will harm the economy with his policy ideas. The people tend to not fact-check the ideas from the media, so they do not know the truth. It is very difficult for the people to analyze the State of the Union address, on their own, if the media inputs their opinions.

I'm refusing to consult what the media is saying about the speech before writing this because it is their job to taint our opinions (they subvert we the people undeniably). Anyway Obama is proposing many very reasonable policies including investing in American manufacturing and job opportunities, reducing nuclear weaponry, and redistributing the wealth and raising the minimum wage to a livable wage. Unfortunately our government has turned me cynical and I don't think all of Obama's proposals will be executed. Obama urges for bipartisanship yet the loyal opposition from the right wing prevents progress. The truth of the matter is the right (well the crazy ones that have taken over the previously reasonable Republican party) HATES Obama. The affordable care act was originally a conservative concept but under Obama, it became a controversy. I will be happy if Congress actually does something in the near future but I am not counting on it. Also I think cutting the defense budget would be wise but that definitely won't happen under either party.
