President Obama's speech provides Congress and American citizens with many good ideas, but how any of them will actually work. in his speech he states that he plans to pay for every aspect of his jobs plan without creating more deficit and debt. Instead he plans to pay for the plan and at the same time reduce the debt and put the American economy back on top. Ithink that his proposal to create jobs by starting to increase American manufacture won't work because the American economy and manufacture is dependent on third-world countries. Manufacture predominantly based in America wont work because American workers will demand higher wages than large corporations pay to their present workers. His plans for tax cuts and the promotion of small buisnesses and private businesses would help stabilize the financial world of the middle class, and raising taxes for the rich would provide the federal government with money that would be stable. His combining approved ideas of both Republicans and Democrats increases the chances of the plan itself being passed.

I agree with President Obama's job proposal. We are living in an economy where the middle and lower class are on in the same and the rich do not contribute to the economic crisis the United States is currently facing. By placing a heavier tax on the rich, the financial crisis will be stimulated and more job opportunities will be offered to those who are less fortunate.

Obama as always, sure knows hows to throw a speech. While I am a supporter of the act, I still have a little bit of skepticism residing in me. How much of an impact would this act hold? Small businesses are tight on money. Although there is a $4000 subsidy on hiring a worker. Businesses still have to consider the cost of maintaining that worker.

As Dinsdale stated, I support Obama's act, but I have a lot of skepticism about it, too. Obama's jobs speech sounds really good to the ear, but there are a few things that kind of bug me. I would've liked him to go in more depth of how he will execute this act. It seems like he just says what he wants the outcome to be, but is somewhat vague on how he plans to get there. Another thing I don't understand is where all this money is coming from. It seems as though the nation is already in such debt, and many critics of Obama feel that he is a big spender.

Like the others said before(Dinsdale, and Emma)President Obama has a great idea in theory, but the question is will this actually work in real life United States? President Obama started his speech as a sympathizer for those who are suffering. And it is important for the president to be aware of the issues in this country. He also instills hope in people, but to me, it is just talk of empty hope.

To Dinsdale question- "And does anybody know (from Obama's perspective) why the left side seems unimpressed while the rest of the room is giving standing ovations? Is it because they are republicans?"

I disagree with Obama's first part of his new bill because I believe it can be abused by the American people. There is no way to directly determine if all of the small businesses are actually telling the truth because documents can be forged and people can be hired and then fired. There is also a case where one person could hire a person for minimum wage, then then give him a raise awhile after so he could get double the tax cut. The money and tax credit that Obama is going to be giving to the people is basically a bribe he is offering to the American people. It is effective and will cause a high amount of American votes to vote in agreement.

I believe the President when he says that the American Jobs Act would appeal to both Democrats and Republicans. But that doesn't necessarily mean it will go through Congress smoothly. We've already seen that compromise is an issue with the debt ceiling crisis. It definitely appeals to the public, job seekers and potential employers alike.

I do feel for Obama. The partisanship of the government right now has to be extremely frustrating as for every step democrats try to take in a republican-majority house, they're taken two steps back, and he he definitely acknowledges this in the Job Act speech. But after watching some republican responses to his proposals, the skepticism shared amongst some of my classmates is valid- in order to correct the mistakes that've been made the country is going to have to spend more money. sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before being able to rebuild again. but then again the Act was constructed by some of the best financial minds of the country, it must be if it's the president's plan for god's sake, but the cooperation of all sides is going to be needed if any change is to be seen- by democrats, rebuplicans, and the public, as Hubert brought up. we all got ourselves into this, now we all need to sacrifice and put in effort to get out.

I know President Obama has good intentions, but even the second time I watched his speech, although I want to find a reason to believe this will work, I don’t think I can. So he says for every worker a business employs, the business employee (the person who hired the workers) would get a tax reduction.

the one thing about his presidency so far is there's a lot of blame game going on. yes, most of the damage can be safely allotted to other groups but obama's white house hasn't been perfect. his guilt trip about getting his ideas from republicans can just be him trying to get them to agree as to not look bad. politics are tricky.

I agree with President Obama's speech because I believe it will appeal to both Democrats and Republicans as he says. It is true that America needs to rennovate schools for children to learn in a better environment. We need many teachers to be hired to help educate these children in order to "outeducate" every other country around the world. We also need more highways and bridges to be built and fixed to "outbuild" the foreign nations and spread trade even more. Without controlling America's polluted skies, how can we ever not think to strengthen medicare? People will have more and more health issues as each day passes. Obama's idea of giving money to small businesses seems accurate because it creates easier jobs to provide for numerous people such as a summer job for teens as well as for someone working from paycheck to paycheck. I understand some of the ideas that some fellow classmates brought up such as corruption within these small businesses. It is possible that it can occur, however, I choose to be positive on this matter. I believe the small businesses will help the economy prosper and I hope that everyone within these businesses do the right thing. It seems as if many people in America want to doubt Obama and his abilities as President as they state that he's done nothing within his presidency. We have to give him credit because America found Osama Bin Laden under his administration. Also, in the past, America had allowed President Bush to make wrong decisions which led us to the turmoil we're in today. Americans cannot expect President Obama to fix eight years of problems within only four years of presidency. Rome was not built in one day, so we have to be patient and give our President a chance to do his job and prove what he has set out to do. In order to move forward as a nation, everyone must be optimistic and drop the negative ideas. Therefore, I believe this bill will be passed since most Republicans clearly agree with it and it's in the best interest of the people. In the end, I believe Obama when he says that we have to take action now and continue to protect Americans as we have for decades.

I agree with President Obama's proposal. I think that giving people tax cuts for hiring new workers and giving people raises is a very logical way to increase the income of many Americans. Also, I think that creating construction jobs is an excellent way to get people employed. I don't think he needs to go any further in depth with how exactly he plans to execute this Bill because he already explained that the Bill will be paid for and how he plans to pay for it. I think this Bill could be very effective because once people start to earn more money, their confidence will increase, and so will consumer spending, which would fuel the economy. This Bill would improve the state of bridges and school buildings across the country while creating much needed jobs for many people.

I agree with Obama's ideas and aspects of his "Americans' Jobs Act". Obama's Jobs Act shows the principle of the "Bubble Up/ Trickle Up" economic plan. He believes in helping small businesses to better the economy rather than funding big businesses more. In order to do so, he will cut payroll taxes of small businesses and also offer tax credits for those who will hire long term unemployed people as well as veterans. I agree that more jobs should be created for construction workers, since there is such an abundance of them and their jobs can create things such as bridges and renovating schools that can help all Americans. Rehiring teachers is also an important factor in Obama's Jobs Act. As a high school student, I've seen what budget cuts and cutting teachers have done to the learning environment. With less teachers, there are less classes and less opportunities for students to learn to help and contribute to a better future.

I strongly agree with Carla and Hubert's points that politicians must sacrifice in order to get the country out of such a bad economic state. The arguments and internal warfare must stop for this country and it's economy to move forward.

I also agree with Obama's Proposal for the American Job Act. He is cutting payroll taxes for small companies in return they will hire more people or increase wages. But the important factor of this plan is time. It would take time for companies to really gain more confidence in spending money with the tight budget that they have. Plus companies wouldn't have to worry about workers slacking off because they would probably understand the value of a job being unemployed for at least 6 months.

I think it’s hard to say whether I agree or disagree with President Obama’s proposal. I definitely support many of his points, such as refinancing taxes and organizing more construction projects. I appreciated how Obama wanted to lower middle class taxes while raising the taxes of the wealthy. I also agreed with Obama’s globalization plan. So far our nation is only consuming, not exporting. A global economy is a stronger one, so I supported his plan in an increase in the production of American goods.

After watching President Obama's speech and reading the other comments above, I realized that I have the same opinions as many of my peers. I think that in his speech, President Obama makes many good points and has multiple ideas that could really benefit the country. I agree that the middle class should get a greater tax cut, small businesses should have a chance to grow, and that our roads and schools need repair-- but this seems like its going to cost an awful lot of money. And although Obama says that this bill will only help our country and NOT add to the deficit, I'm still puzzled on how he plans to pay for it without having it affect America. To some degree this reminds me a little bit of Franklin Roosevelt and his New Deal program. How he wanted to create new jobs and stimulate the economy by creating public works and helping middle class Americans get back on their feet after the Great Depression.

I believe that this plan is the most logical in terms of helping the people. It has been proven in the past that aiding large corporations and businesses in times of economic struggle do almost NOTHING for the working class, the ones who need the most help.

Ashley brings up a really good point from Obama's speech, about America being "backwards". Countries all over Europe are encouraging kids to try and become as fluent in as many languages as they possibly can, yet on Friday I found out that both the Spanish class and the French class that I want to take this year have been cut due to budget cuts. How am I, as a student interested in learning languages, supposed to feel about this? It honestly isn't fair that this is affecting our education, and I'm really pleased that Obama is well aware of the situation, and disagrees with all the budget cuts and teacher layoffs. Of course, simply disagreeing isn't enough. There needs to be action.

I think President Obama made some really strong points in his speech and I believe the American Jobs Act could help Americas suffering economy. Creating jobs that will further the wellbeing of America, like construction jobs and jobs for teachers, is the way to go. Because we don't just need jobs, we need jobs that will create a better economy for a long time, not just jumpstart it only to have it peter out again. He also provides a plan for paying for it, however this does seem like an expensive act and I doubt it could really do good and not effect the deficit, but at least he has a base for paying for it. I also agree with the idea that the wealthier Americans should be taxed more than the middle class, it's simple logic.

Our economy rests upon emotion. I think the most important part of this is not the plan itself, but the speech. By aggressively pushing Congress to pass the bill and expressing his full confidence in its success, the President has definitely taken a step in the right direction. Will it work? That has yet to be seen.

While listening to Obama's job proposal, Obama projected a sense of passion and hope that America will reach its way back to the top of the global scale. He shows that the national crisis is not about politics anymore and that it is about giving hope/relief to the American people. And Although I do respect Obama’s ideas and realization of a struggling nation dealing with unemployment, foreclosures, deficit and poverty, I am a bit skeptical of Obama's execution of the American Job Act.

I do very much agree with President Obama's speech with the national creating jobs act. The people of America are going through hard times and most of them are unemployed. This act should provide them with the opportunity to support their families and also themselves. I also agree with Obama's statement with needing to start helping each other. Wealthy millionaires and billionaires have tax cuts and poorer people have to deal with being taxed and also supporting themselves. Instead of gaining money they are losing money. I really hope Congress hears our President's words carefully and pass this act, this is something that we really need in our nation. Also I agree with Emelia Breen's comment. I will also be very disappointed in our country if the "political circus" prevents congress from passing this bill. It's not about politics, but about how bad our economy is doing.

This speech was very passionate to say the least.you can tell that Obama has put a lot of thought into it and is eager to get it up and running. his emphasis on "Now!" is very clear. I think its worth a shot and that congress would defiantly put it through. we are at a stand still nothing much is being put into play. this plan seems to promise to help middle class Americans find jobs and make decent wages. Obama stresses that this is not about politics and that the world doesn't have time to care about politics cause there stressing out about making ends meet. I like the fact he brings pure facts into it it is very convincing and gives less room for argument. he tries to bring everyone on common ground democrats and republicans. He touched on every issue that has come up and gives a valid reason to support his plan still. i think we should be number 1 as america. we should have other countries buy things and look on the back to see a sticker that says made in america. we need to get back on our feet and i think it is possible. If rich and wealthy people put there pride aside. It can happen id everyone worked toward the same goal.

I agree with Barrack Obama’s “Americans Jobs Act” because of the people it is targeting and the way it is going to put people back in business. In order to help the economy, you need to employee people. Manufacturing and Construction are one of the biggest employers out there. Obama believes that if Congress accepts this act, we can immediately put people back to work including manufactures and construction workers.

I agree with Obama’s plans to create more jobs and hire more teachers. America use to be one of the most advanced and powerful countries but now we are falling behind. We are in a lot of debt and there are millions of people out of jobs. Obama’s job plan is designed to create more jobs and at the same time create tax cuts for small businesses that sometimes pay more than larger corporations. Obama is right in hiring more teachers and funding schools and programs. Education is an important part of our society and necessary for moving forward; schools everywhere are feeling the pressures of budget cuts and teachers are being put out of jobs. Creating jobs give people hope and by giving tax cuts small businesses can thrive. This encourages more products to be made in America; almost all products we use are made in foreign countries. We have the ability to do the same as others so why do foreign countries sell us products and we buy them? Why is it not the other way around? We use to be such a strong and prosperous country, this is what Obama is trying to tell us and show us. We can get out of this recession and we become prosperous again we just need to work together and put our differences aside. Obama is gaining the support of the people but with all the tax cuts and new programs being funded it will only increase the deficit, the situation will only get worse before it gets better which could cause more problems and more disagreements between the democrats and republicans. Overall I felt Obama did a great job with his speech and sounded very determined to get both sides on the same page, we need to stop the disagreements and come up with a solution this situation is not just going to magically get better without doing anything.

Obama is relying too much on Small businesses to revive the economy. I don't think individual Americans are confident enough to hire employees. Maybe it's me but, large corporations are the fountain to our economy no matter what. These corporations have millions in their bank accounts and can afford to take risks such as hiring employees in this economic state.

I agree with Obama's plan. It gives me the same feeling like that of his campaign speech with the motto "Yes We Can." I feel that this plan finally stated what has been on the minds of many Americans for so long. Right now the people don't care about actual politics, they just want to make ends meet. I do agree with Obama when he mentions that while China is advancing their technology and Korea is getting more teachers, our own country is taking several steps background. I think Obama is right in saying we need to prioritize. Like he says, we cannot afford to do both and we have to do what will benefit us immediately. I feel like this speech and this act will also reach out to students. We have been experiencing the effects of budget cuts in the last few years and we suffer the most when we should be focusing on education. This year many are missing required classes for graduation because of the lack of teachers and money. We should focus on our internal progress before looking out to other nations.

It was so refreshing to hear this speech. Obama spoke honestly and clearly about the problems that our country is facing, and the need for Congress to actually work together and fix things. Obama's Jobs Bill sounds like a remarkably fair and agreeable plan for members of both parties. I don't know how Republicans could possibly fight this bill... not only would it be immoral to go against the initiatives outlined in this plan, but it would also be out of line with many of the ideals Republicans have said they stand for these days. This bill lowers taxes for average Americans, something Republicans have been going on and on about for the longest time. It helps small businesses in many ways, including giving them assistance if they hire new workers, especially those who have been out of work for a long time. The idea of helping everyday Americans in these dire economic times is not a uniquely liberal one. And plus, we wouldn't be increasing the deficit by doing this.
